Live Testing of AIR based GPS Flickr application

Friday, June 29th, 2007 by Mike Chambers

Just a quick note, but we are about to head out on the road to do some testing of the AIR GPS tracking and photo apps. If you want to check out the photos (which will be geoencoded), you can view them on the bus tour’s Flickr webcam account.

I will be setting the interval to a picture every minute, while we drive south of San Francisco (heading down to Fry’s to try to find some speakers for the gaming areas).

Update : Test is done. Everything went well, and only ran into one bug (which I’ll fix tonight).

You can see the images here. You can download the GPS data in GPX and JSON formats.

Bus Tour Desktop Wallpapers (with Source)

Friday, June 29th, 2007 by Mike Chambers

I just checked in a set of desktop wallpapers for the bus tour to the bus tour’s code repository. The wallpapers were created by Blitz, and contain all of the event dates (so you don’t miss the bus in your city!)

We have published them in multiple sizes, which you can grab from here. We have also uploaded the source, in case you want to modify the wallpapers or create your own (if you do, post a link to them in the comments).

Any suggestions on movies for the Bus?

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007 by Mike Chambers

It just hit me that some of the bus trips between cities are pretty long (20 hours from Portland to Vegas, 20+ hours from LA to Dallas), so I figured we should make sure that the bus is well stocked with some movies to wile away the hours.

Of course, I have picked up some of the standards like Spinal Tap, Monty Python’s Holy Grail, and Hackers (a very accurate portrayal of computer hacking… not!). Anyone else have any suggestions? What are the best geek / coding movies? What do we need to make sure is on the bus?

Post your suggestions in the comments…

Ignite the Web! Event in Seattle

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007 by Mike Chambers

We have just updated the evening agenda for the Seattle bus tour event (July 10th). We will be hosting an Ignite type event which we are calling Ignite the Web!. The Ignite events are based on the Ignite Seattle! events where presenters are given 5 minutes to go through 20 slides, with 15 seconds on each slide (oh, and the presenters don’t control their slides). As you can imagine, this leads to some very focused (and always) entertaining presentations.

Both the Adobe AIR conference during the day, and Ignite event in the evening are free, and we will be providing food and drinks between the day and evening sessions. So, if you were planning on attending one or the other, consider hanging around for both.

Photos of Tour Bus Being wrapped

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007 by Mike Chambers

The bus was finally wrapped this week. I was really curious to see what wrapping a bus involves, so we had a photographer head out to Florence, Alabama (where it was being wrapped) to get some images of the entire process. I just received them today, and have uploaded them to Flickr.

Tour Event / Venue Data Feed Updated

Thursday, June 21st, 2007 by Mike Chambers

Just a quick note, but based on some of your input, we have updated the Bus tour Event / Venue Data feed. We have add some more information to it (including urls for each city, and start and end times). We also changed the data field from date, to startime and endtime (with both specified in W3C Date / Time format).

You can view the new feed here, and find information about all of the data feeds and APIs on the Bus API page.

Thanks to Kevin Hoyt for helping with the changes.

We have updated the agendas for the second leg of the tour with Ben’s session. You can see the entire list of cities for the second leg on the schedule page.

Make sure to register today.
