Location API and AIR Application test

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007 by Mike Chambers

We have been working on some of the new APIs that will go live once the tour actually starts and the bus hits the road. One of the most important APIs is the location API that will provide information about where the bus is, and where it has been. You will be able to grab this data as its own feed, but we will are also planning on using it to tag other items (Flickr, blog posts, tweets) with geo data.

Once we get everything working and installed I’ll make a more detailed post on how it works, but basically it goes:

on AIR Bus Tour Website design and process

Monday, June 18th, 2007 by Mike Chambers

We just posted a video with Lee Brimelow, Rob Stokes and Nick De La Mare from frog design who worked on the onair.adobe.com tour website with Adobe.

The actual tour project has a number of facets, including the website, wrap design for the bus, stickers, tshirts, signs, etc… all of which are tied together visually. The video and this post focus on the process around creating the website (we will more posts on other facets of the project, such as the bus design, in future videos and blog posts).

Creating the tour website, involved a number of steps:

What do you want to know?

Friday, June 15th, 2007 by Mike Chambers

One of our goals with the tour is to make it as transparent as possible. This is driven not so much by “why would we do this” but rather “why wouldn’t we do this”. Some of the information will be more interesting than useful, but I also think some of it will very valuable.

Bus Tour Twitter Account

Thursday, June 14th, 2007 by Mike Chambers

Just a quick reminder, but if you are interested in keeping up with the day to day going-ons of the tour, make sure to check out the on AIR Bus Tour Twitter feed. Right now it is mostly dealing with some of the more mundane details of the tour, but as we get closer to the actual events, expect to see some more interesting information there (especially once we get our hands on the bus).

You can follow the day to day Twitters / Tweets here.

Ultimate AIR Book Library from O’Reilly

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007 by Mike Chambers

I just received an email from O’Reilly, one of the partners on the tour, letting us know that they will be providing (what I like to call) the ultimate AIR developer’s book bundle. Here is what they is included:

We will be giving away 5 of these bundles at all of the events, and will probably provide them to the best developer demos, code, apps at each event (although we are open to any other ideas).

Of course, everyone will receive O’Reilly’s newest Adobe Integrated Runtime Book which is focused on building applications with HTML and JavaScript. Ill post more on that once we “officially” announce the book.

What do you want from the tour?

Monday, June 11th, 2007 by Mike Chambers

One of the things about the On AIR Tour that I am most excited is that we have a lot of flexibility in what the actual tour is. We have posted tentative agendas for all of the cities, but I expect that they will be constantly changing and evolving as the tour progresses.

So, take a look at the agenda for your nearest city, and let us know what we are missing. Are there specific sessions you want to see? More breaks? More time to just write code? Want more APIs on the website? More data?

We don’t control the tour, you do. Tell us what you want to see on the tour.

Load up the Bus! AIR (”Apollo”) is going on the Road

Sunday, June 10th, 2007 by Mike Chambers

A couple of months ago, we held Apollo Camp in San Francisco. This was a one night developer event for web developers interested in learning more about the Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) (which, at the time, was known by its code-named of “Apollo”). The event was a huge success, and even before it was over, we began to get requests to do additional Apollo Camps across the country and world.

Well, that is exactly what we are doing. The on AIR Bus Tour is a 18 City tour over the next couple of months across North America. We are packing the bus full of Flash, Flex and JavaScript developers and going across the continent to hold free developer conferences for anyone interested in learning more about the Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR).

The tour is about a lot more than just the conferences though. The entire tour will be tracked online at onair.adobe.com. There you can find the latest news, information, event schedules and APIs and data feeds. Once the tour starts, we are planning on hosting live 24 / 7 video feeds from the bus, as well real time data and location feeds and updates from the tour.

We will be posting more details about the tour over the next couple of days and weeks. In the meantime, check the schedule to see when the bus will be in your city, and then head over and register for the tour.

Visit the on AIR Bus Tour site.
