May 3rd, 2007 by Mike ChambersLast week I sat down with Deeje Cooley who gave me a demo of the new Apollo based, Adobe Media Player (code-named Philo).
You can find more information on the Adobe Media Player on labs.

oh my god this is awesome, can’t wait to try it out, finally a decent solution for FLV content, flash is ahead again.
I would also like to really, really thank the adobe guys for making some of this technologies open source, I think I’m dreaming, is like the old HTML days, when all u needed to make a web page was a text editor, patience and lots of diet coke, hehe, now this is just like that, grab notepad, and make great apps, great.
thenx a lot
It’s cool…
Good to see Media RSS standard in use by more and more video sites…

Looks cool.
What about the promised/threatened DRM?
Nice. I like the transition between fullscreen and embedded modes without losing playback continuity.
This is great. My question is how will this player coexist with the likes of Joost? I’m assuming that Adobe is putting some effort behind the development to be more than just a mere showcase of its apollo technology.
It looks like there are some very cool advertising opportunities and i wonder with what partner/network they have partnered in that arena.

An external mic is not rocket science. You interview people, you give them a mic. This guy needed a mic.

Hehe… well, as you found out, I am not a video expert, but I am learning as we go along.
We were using an HD camerea with no external mic output, which is why we didnt use a mic. (we are getting a new camera though, which should solve the problems).
Any don’t worry, I won’t quit my day job to shoot video full time…

Joost FAQ…
Joost FAQ: The desktop video player gets $45 million in venture funding… that’s a lot! Anil Gupte has a short post showing some of the differences from other video projects: reliance on live peer-to-peer connection, and fixed schedules of particular…
This being named Adobe MEDIA player, what about handling audio/music and photo slideshows etc. Will it be one whole MEDIA system, or is it strictly video? I’d like to see it become my MEDIA library in a way, to play, store, and sort all my media. Have visualizers for audio tracks, etc.
Yes, it is called Adobe Media Player for a reason
The video and library icons seem to be square (4×3) aspect ratio.
Nearly all professioinal content will be wide screen (16 x 9) or wider.
Will you support wide screen video and skins around it?
Keep up the good work.

Thanks for sharing, it’s good to see new technologies being previewed and the potential for end users to consume video content. The large video format you have on this site shows well, looking towards other video postings.
