Moxie Sneak Peak : Creating Flex Containers in Flash CS3

May 9th, 2007 by Mike Chambers

Ted Patrick sat down with Glenn Ruehle of the Flex SDK team last week and he showed him some new features that he is working on for Flex 3 (code-named Moxie), which will allow developers and designers to build container components in Flash CS3 for use within Flex development.

Looks cool guys. I’ve really enjoyed these videos. But I have some constructive critisism….

Why wasn’t this done with Camtasia? I would really enjoy a video that actually showed you how this was done using Camtasia or something similar. I’m a Flex developer who has never used Flash. If there was a learning resource that showed the code (hopefully through a screen cast) I could convince my bosses to buy me Flash CS3.

I’ve posed this before but Flex needs something like this: http://www.asp.net/learn/videos/default.aspx?tabid=63 !

I really would like to see this up on labs as soon as possible. I am about ready to dive into a project that will really benefit from this feature and I have to be finished with it by July. Pretty pleeease! :)

Interesting to see the different ways of implementing this feature. I’m curious as a Flex developer, and not a Flash developer why would I want to use Flash to do this? Seems to me that the approach I would end up taking is having the VBox component provide different states and would include transitions between those states to achieve the look and feel the demo provided. I don’t fully understand the benefit of using Flash to do this work for me…but it is freaky cool!
